During the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest in Rivers State, violence erupted when thugs assaulted a journalist, Agbalam, and several protesters. Witnesses reported that before Agbalam’s arrival, two other protesters had been attacked, with police officers present but failing to intervene.

The Federal Secretariat, a focal point of the week-long protest demanding an end to hunger and poor governance, has seen continued gatherings despite the violence. Concerns have been raised about the lack of police protection for protesters, as over 20 officers were reportedly inactive during the assaults.

Rivers State Police Commissioner Olatunji Disu has expressed concern over these incidents and promised a thorough investigation to hold the perpetrators accountable and prevent future occurrences.

The nationwide protest, now in its seventh day, has faced increasing violence, particularly in some Northern states. Despite security threats, organizers, including Ene Obi and Hauwa Mustapha, have vowed to continue the demonstration until their demands are met. They have emphasized their commitment to the protest at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, despite the challenges they face.
