“I’m Not Intimidated by Odumodublvck, Blaqbonez & the New Wave” — M.I Abaga Stands His Ground

Renowned veteran rapper M.I Abaga has emphatically stated that he isn’t threatened by the rise of younger rap stars such as Odumodublvck, Blaqbonez, Shallipopi, Falz, and Ladipoe.

In a recent interview, M.I shared that while he admires the talent and dedication of emerging rappers, their success does not challenge his confidence or artistry:

“The likes of Odumodublvck, Shallipopi, Ladipoe, Falz are the rappers who are currently making waves, but I have not felt like I’m the old guy in terms of skills… What I care about is if you and I were in the studio, am I with somebody who can outrap me?”

He added:

“I love what Odumodu is doing. I love what Blaqbonez is doing. I love their talent but it doesn’t intimidate me. I’m not Davido, I’m not Wizkid; they are in the red‑hot moment.”

– Odumodublvck has become a cultural force in Nigerian hip-hop, notably for his hit “Declan Rice” and rising influence in drill and fusion genres. His success and self-assured persona have reshaped rap conversations.

– Critics have sometimes questioned Odumodublvck’s rap credentials—accusing him of style over skill—but he remains unapologetically confident, pushing boundaries in storytelling, multilingual delivery, and digital virality.
