“I’ve Finally Apologised” — Yemi Solade Publicly Repents to Afeez Owo for Old Slap

Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has issued a heartfelt public apology to fellow actor and filmmaker Afeez Owo, admitting he slapped him over 20 years ago during a film shoot near Ibadan, Oyo State.

Speaking on the podcast Behind the Fame – African A‑List, Solade took responsibility for the unprovoked act, explaining that he was provoked by frustration after Owo—then production manager—made accusations against him. He recalled:

“He was laying accusations, and I got infuriated. That slap came from nowhere in the dark.”

He revealed that Owo became so upset he quietly left the set the following morning. Solade expressed regret and formally apologised:

“Let me apologise to Afeez Abiodun. … I slapped him once … I didn’t like that. … Afeez, I’m sorry, mabinu simi.”

Solade acknowledged his temper and said he hates insults—calling his reaction a significant personal failing. Despite privately discussing the incident over the years, he felt it was time to address Owo directly and publicly.
