Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo, has strongly condemned acts of vigilantism following the alleged killing of a Fulani settler in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area last week. In a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, Governor Ododo stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law and warned against individuals taking justice into their own hands.

To address the incident and restore peace, the governor convened an emergency security meeting in Lokoja on Saturday, where he engaged both the Isanlu indigenes and Fulani settlers. The meeting aimed to prevent potential reprisals and maintain security in the area.

Governor Ododo expressed disapproval of jungle justice, stating that such actions are unacceptable and those responsible would face the full wrath of the law. He also directed an investigation into the involvement of traditional rulers in the incident and suspended one ruler due to their role.

The governor urged Isanlu leaders to caution their people against actions that contribute to insecurity, calling for the identification and handover of criminal elements to law enforcement agencies. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to pursuing criminals, regardless of their tribe.

Governor Ododo commended the Fulani community for refraining from a reprisal attack and expressed appreciation for their commitment to peace. The meeting, attended by top government officials, security agencies, and community leaders, was hailed as successful, with both parties agreeing to prioritize peace.
