The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has requested assistance from the Jigawa State government to set up three additional e-border stations within the state.

During a courtesy visit to Governor Umar Namadi on Tuesday in Dutse, Assistant Controller-General Haladu Usman, who oversees the North-West region, highlighted the need for these stations to curb criminal activities and smuggling along the borders.

Usman explained that the e-border project aims to monitor and reduce illegal border crossings by criminals involved in trans-border crimes. He specifically requested support for the establishment of stations in Kumsa, Dangwanki, and Galadi. He noted that while the NIS is eager to expand the project, land acquisition issues have been a hurdle.

“We are appealing to His Excellency to assist in providing land for these e-border stations,” Usman said. He praised the state government for its ongoing support, which has been crucial for the effective operation of the NIS.

In response, Governor Namadi affirmed the importance of the e-border initiative, noting its alignment with modern security practices. “Technology is essential in today’s world,” he remarked, expressing strong support for the expansion of the e-border project.

The governor committed to facilitating the required support to cover the proposed areas, directing the state controller to work with the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to advance the project.
