Tanko Yunusa, the interim coordinator of the Obidient movement, has stated that only the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can determine the legality of the recent intervention by Peter Obi and Alex Otti in the Labour Party (LP).
Obi, former governor of Anambra State and LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, and Otti, the current governor of Abia State, were involved in forming a 29-member caretaker committee to lead the party temporarily. Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, former finance minister, was appointed as the committee chairperson.
The intervention came amid a leadership crisis in the party, which saw LP national chairman Barrister Julius Abure absent from a key stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia, Abia State. Otti convened the meeting in an effort to resolve the crisis.
