Nollywood star Bimbo Ademoye recently opened up on Instagram about a debilitating betrayal by a friend, coinciding with the launch of her new film To Be a Friend, now streaming on her YouTube channel.

At 34, the actress recalled how she once went above and beyond to support a close friend who aspired to act. She’d dress the friend up in clothes, shoes, and bags—hoping to boost her star potential—while already enjoying recognition and nominations for roles in films like Sugar Rush and Back Up Wife.

The turning point came at a premiere where Bimbo was the lead. Her stylist fitted her for the red carpet, but to her surprise, the friend showed up wearing the same dress, in a different colour—an act her sister immediately flagged as inappropriate. From then on, the friend seemed determined to outshine her financially at events, funded entirely by Bimbo herself.

When Bimbo fell ill, the friend disappeared. In response, Bimbo cut ties—only to discover the friend had resurfaced through a fake Instagram account, trolling her and even attempting to contact her ex-boyfriend.

She paused the recounting, saying: “Anyways, let me stop here. We’d continue this story another day,” but used the moment to promote her film, which examines themes of loyalty, betrayal, and toxic friendships. She also incentivized fans to engage by offering ₦100,000 to anyone who correctly identifies a scene in which Kunle Remi wears a specific suit shown in her post.

To Be a Friend, co-starring Kunle Remi, Uzor Arukwe, and Deyemi Okanlawon, has already attracted over one million views since its YouTube premiere on July 4 .
