Former Heartland coach Hassan Abdallah has advocated for Montpellier striker Akor Adams to be considered for a Super Eagles call-up, according to Soccernet.ng. Abdallah believes Adams’ strength and recent performances in Ligue 1 make him a valuable asset for Nigeria’s national team.

Adams began his professional career in August 2018 when he transitioned from Nigeria’s Jamba Football Academy to the Norwegian club Sogndal. Although injuries hampered his progress during the 2020 season, he bounced back by scoring 10 goals in 28 matches by the end of 2021.

His impressive form led to a three-year contract with Lillestrøm in December 2021, where he made a significant impact, scoring in both the Norwegian Cup and his Eliteserien debut.

In 2023, Adams joined Montpellier in Ligue 1, netting 10 goals in 33 appearances during his debut season. This season, he has already recorded three goals and two assists in just six matches.

Despite his accomplishments, Adams is still waiting for his first cap with Nigeria’s senior team, although he participated in the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup. Abdallah insists that a physically dominant forward like Adams is needed in the Super Eagles lineup.

However, with Nigeria boasting top forwards such as Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Kelechi Iheanacho, Adams may not receive a call-up soon. Nonetheless, Abdallah is confident that Adams’ strength and physicality could provide Nigeria with a different attacking dimension.

“He has the power, and we need someone like that,” Abdallah concluded.

Over his professional career in Europe, Adams has tallied 57 goals and 18 assists in 145 matches.
