The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Senator Dino Melaye due to alleged anti-party activities. This decision was announced in a letter published by Punch Online on Friday.
The suspension was issued by the Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 party executive committee following a review of a report from the disciplinary committee investigating Melaye’s actions. The resolution stated:
“Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct has caused embarrassment and disrepute to the party, making his continued membership untenable. Therefore, the Ward party executive committee suspends Dino Melaye from the PDP, effective immediately.”
The suspension is in accordance with Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution, which authorizes the Ward executive committees to take disciplinary actions against members.
The decision comes after Melaye’s recent actions were deemed harmful to the PDP’s interests and unity. The suspension resolution was signed on Thursday by Ward Chairman Abayomi Osamika and Ward Secretary Yodson Dayo. The letter noted that Melaye had been invited to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on August 20, 2024, to address allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities, as outlined in Article 57(4) of the PDP Constitution.
