The future of Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is expected to be a focal point in the upcoming party caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings scheduled for September 11 and 12. The anticipated discussions are set to be critical, given the ongoing internal debates within the party.

APC National Secretary Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola revealed the importance of these meetings as internal disputes regarding Ganduje’s leadership continue to escalate. The controversy centers around heated exchanges between two party figures, Chief Oliver Okpala and Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, about Ganduje’s continued chairmanship.

Okpala, who is Ganduje’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Enlightenment, has criticized Zazzaga’s recent criticisms of Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule. Sule, who is also the chairman of the North-Central APC Governors Forum, had publicly supported Ganduje’s leadership and called for unity within the party ahead of the Edo and Ondo governorship elections.

Zazzaga, representing the North Central Forum of the APC, has accused Governor Sule of betraying his state and region by supporting Ganduje. He argues that, according to the APC’s power-sharing arrangements, the position of national chairman should be held by someone from the North Central zone.

In response, Okpala defended Sule’s endorsement of Ganduje, asserting that it reflects a commitment to the party’s success rather than personal ambition.

The upcoming meetings at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa will be attended by key figures, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, former President Muhammadu Buhari, and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, among other party leaders.

Ajibola confirmed that the NEC meeting will take place on September 12 at the Nicon Hilton Hotel in Abuja, underscoring the high stakes of these discussions for the APC’s future leadership.
