Fire Hits Lagos Government Staff Quarters

A fire broke out at a three-storey building within the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off Wempco Road in Ogba.

Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday. The fire began around 2:39 a.m., prompting LASEMA to dispatch its response team from the Alausa command and control center.

The blaze was contained in Flat 5, Block 21, one of 16 two-bedroom flats in the building. It was determined that the fire started in a children’s room due to a power surge.

Oke-Osanyintolu noted that the swift and coordinated efforts of LASEMA, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service prevented the fire from spreading further. While no injuries or fatalities were reported, the children’s bedroom was completely destroyed, and property losses are estimated in the millions of naira.

The response team also provided guidance to occupants on the safe use of electrical appliances to prevent future incidents.
