The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Agency Task Force has apprehended four individuals in connection with the August 13 attack on a Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) vehicle.

At a press briefing on Wednesday in Lagos, CSP Tayo Akerele, Chairman of the task force, revealed that the bus, traveling from Orile-Iganmu to Alaba Suru, was targeted by the suspects. The four arrested are Ilesanmi Kazeem, Ibrahim Lawal, Daniel Abati, and Mohammed Ali.

The attack occurred when a BRT bus, identified by number 240216 and traveling from Mile 2 Terminal to Lagos Island, was ambushed in Alaba Suru. The assailants robbed passengers and vandalized the bus.

Akerele emphasized the government’s strict stance against such destructive actions, asserting that prosecuting those responsible will deter similar future offenses. “These kinds of attacks are typical of miscreants’ behavior. We are committed to bringing them to justice, as we have done with these arrests,” he stated.

ACP Emmanuel Oyewole of the Lagos Command’s Operations Unit added that the suspects were apprehended following a task force raid in the area. He expressed dismay over the incident, noting that passengers were not only robbed but also injured.

“We have arrested four individuals, including Mohammad Ali, aged 30, who identified the other three suspects. Others involved remain at large. The daylight nature of this attack is inexcusable, and we will ensure that those responsible face legal consequences,” Oyewole said.
