In response to the ongoing issue of ritual killings across Nigeria, the Nigeria Police have called on monarchs and community leaders to play a more active role in addressing the menace.

The police emphasized the importance of collaboration in tackling ritual killings, pointing to the success of a joint effort with traditional leaders that helped curb the infamous ‘Badoo rituals’ in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this appeal through his verified X.com account on Thursday, urging traditional institutions and community leaders to get involved.

Adejobi expressed concern over the rising cases of ritual killings, stressing that communities need to work together and provide valuable information to authorities. He highlighted the need for a holistic approach to the problem, noting that ritual killings are more spiritual than legal in nature.

Reflecting on the Ikorodu case, Adejobi said, “We adopted a similar approach when we were tackling Badoo rituals in Ikorodu, Lagos. It’s difficult to curb such practices without the involvement of traditional institutions. The issue is more spiritual than legal or physical.”

He urged law enforcement agencies to incorporate traditional leaders into their efforts, stating that this collaboration is crucial to effectively addressing the problem.
