The Russian Embassy in Nigeria has denied any involvement with a group of protesters in northern Nigeria who were seen waving Russian flags. This statement follows reports from DAILY POST about the protesters marching with Russian flags and chanting slogans, with some holding placards with various messages.

The Department of State Service (DSS) has confirmed the arrest of a tailor in Kano who was producing the Russian flags, along with his sponsors.

In an official statement, the Russian Embassy clarified that Russia does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, including Nigeria. The embassy emphasized that the actions of the protesters do not reflect any official policy or position of the Russian government.

“The Embassy has noted the reports in Nigerian media and the circulation of videos and images in digital media depicting protesters in northern states of the country carrying Russian flags and chanting slogans to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Government of the Russian Federation, as well as any Russian officials, are not involved in these activities and do not coordinate them in any way,” the statement read.

The embassy further stated, “As always, we emphasize that Russia does not interfere in the domestic affairs of foreign states, including Nigeria. These intentions of some protesters to wave Russian flags are personal choices of individuals, and they do not reflect any official position or policy of the Russian Government on the issue.”

The statement concluded by expressing respect for Nigerian democracy and the right to peaceful demonstrations in accordance with Nigerian law, while condemning any potential disruptions or acts of violence that might arise from such events.
